I just posted about the 2009 heads up championship and couldn’t believe some of the names I was reading. I can’t believe they would have Jennifer Tilly in the NBC heads up tournament and not have Alec Torelli! Yes, I know Alec Torelli a little, but I don’t think this is a bias post. I spend hours a day researching poker and pros and so I pick up a little bit of poker knowledge. One of the recent feats I’ve seen accomplished was by Alec Torelli. He finished 2nd in the 2008 WSOP Heads up Championships and 2nd in the 2009 Crown Aussie Millions Championship. He also has a FTOPS main event under his belt and he won back to back World Poker Tour Events (not main). He has tons of experience playing heads up poker at Full Tilt Poker and is pretty popular young gun. Alec was shocked (much to Andre Robl’s joy), that he was invited to the pre party for the Heads up Championship, but not the actual event. IMO, he should have got a seat in the event over others that played.
Anyways, this gave me an idea to do an heads up invitational tournament myself. Yes, I’m going to personally pick (with some help from pros) a line up for an invite only heads up tournament on a major online poker room! I plan on inviting Chris Ferguson, Alec Torelli, Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius, Phil Galfond, Howard Lederer, Ilari Sahamies, Hac Dang, Di Dang, Sami Kelopuro, Phil Ivey, and others to be involved in this epic online heads up tournament. I’m also planning an election process via polls.
So maybe Alec wouldn’t be the 800 lb gorilla in a room full of top pros, but he will definitely have the respect from them and maybe some fear. I think Alec is one of the an under rated pro. Maybe that will help get to the top!
